A couple of days ago, my husband and I had a little talk about our future together. We talked about our big dreams and goals just to make sure we had the same life vision and could work towards those goals together. Even though we have been together for 10 years, this is a talk that needs to happen often because people change. I wanted to make sure that our lives were still aligned to the same purposes and dreams, so we don’t end up completley confused and surprised with each other in the future! Putting what I wanted out of my life into words made me realize, sometimes I just don’t even know what I want for myself unless I take the time to think about the future or talk about it with somebody else.
Creating a dream mood is similar to this in that it puts in physical form what you really want out of your life. It’s out there in a way you can actually see it. The major, unthinkable, awesome, unbelievable things that you want out of life, right in front of you.
If you want to do this, start a new Pinterest board and start pinning things that inspire you! That’s it. Super simple.
Ask yourself these questions to get you started:
- Where do you want to be in life in 10 years?
- Where do you want to go?
- How do you want to live?
- What you want your life to look like – big picture?
Sure there are practical ways to reach our big goals in life such as creating a schedule, creating measurable and practical goals and setting up financial plans, but I think it is important to look only at those huge crazy things you really want out of life every so often, just as it is important to make plans to reach these crazy dreams. Want to be able to travel for months at a time? Want to see a beautiful mountain view from your bedroom window when you wake up? Want to create a beautiful home? Create a dream board of these types of images!
I believe your soul needs that type of inspiration in order to create the plan to get to where you want to be. Even if you don’t plan out ways to reach your dreams, dream away with your mood board anyway! Don’t stress about the hows, just focus on the whats.
What is a dream mood board?
A dream mood board is basically a collection of images/articles/quotes that portray, in a visual form, where you want to be in your life. I used Pinterest to create mine. You can also print images and make a collage, or do a digital collage on Photoshop or something similar. I just love how easy Pinterest is!
Remember those questions:
Where do you want to be in life? Where do you want to go? How do you want to live? What you want your life to look like – big picture?
Here is my board as an example to how I answered them:
What to pin?
Basically, pin anything that inspires you. Here’s some ideas to get you started!
- places you want to go
- dream home stuff
- where you want to live
- articles on living a certain lifestyle (travel, minimalism, mission work, entrepreneurial lifestyle, etc)
Start by doing some searches on Pinterest – just the process of even thinking of what you want to search for is self discovery in itself.
Here are some ideas of search terms to get you started-
inspirational quotes, beautiful homes, beautiful places to travel, how to earn $100,000 a month, how to become a missionary
Even if it’s an article you will never read, pin it. The board is meant to have you focus on what you want out of life, not how you are going to get there. It’s not time to stress about that, it’s time to dream!
So, what’s going to come out of this? Well, maybe nothing practical, but you will be a little more clear on your vision for your life. Do not get stuck in life. Take risks, explore, and dream big! Use this dream board as a starting point for your future crazy ventures ahead.
